1st movement - "Doina"
Romania's traditional music is strongly influenced by the rural population's closeness to nature.
A variety of natural sounds have found their way into music over time.
Three traditional Romanian elements form the musical basis of the
first sentence.
A "Doina", a free, improvised shepherd's melody, swings above the pounding rhythm.
To this day, the traditional shepherd's flute playing has been preserved in the remote areas of the country.
The rhythm is a 7/8th beat, like the one in Geamparale,
a traditional Romanian dance.
This rhythm is played by a “toaka”.
A toaka is a long soundwood that is mounted on the church walls and fulfills the function of a church bell.
2nd movement - "Tuică"
Anyone who gets in touch with the locals in the rural areas of Romania will be impressed by their openness and hospitality.
Mandatory for every visit:
theȚuică.
This home-made schnapps
is the pride of every host.
A cultural asset that contributes to people's cheerful and positive attitude to life,
also, or precisely, because life in the remote villages is not always easy.
The second movement takes up this mood.
The attentive listener will have a certain effect of theȚuică can certainly perceive.
3rd movement - "Trans-Atlantic"
The Mocăniță, one of the last remaining forest railways in Europe,
is symbolic of the third sentence.
Just as it crosses the Vaser Valley in Maramureș, the third movement, with its locomotive-like rhythm, stylistically combines traditional sounds with those of jazz and western sound culture.
